Punctuation practice

Punctuation practice that explains itself.

Most lost marks aren’t big mistakes — they’re a missing apostrophe or a comma in the wrong place. Exam-style questions, an instant answer, and the reason behind it, every time.

  • The real exam format

A sentence is split into four groups of words. Your child finds the group with the mistake in capital letters or punctuation — or chooses N when there isn’t one.

  • Sometimes there’s no mistake

About a quarter of the questions are correct as written, so your child learns to trust a good sentence as well as spot a bad one.

  • The reason, every time

Every answer, right or wrong, shows the mistake corrected and a one-line explanation. That’s how a rule sticks, rather than just a score.

  • Practise what’s weak

Rounds start with new questions and the ones they got wrong. Drill one topic, take a mixed round, or retry only the mistakes.

Question 4 of 10Apostrophes: belonging

The sentence below may contain a mistake in the use of capital letters or punctuation. Choose the group of words that contains the mistake. If there is no mistake, choose ‘N’.

The cat lickedA
it’s paws andB
then curled upC
by the fire.D

The correct answer is:

ABCDN

Correct!

Mistake in group B

it’s paws and → its paws and

Its, with no apostrophe, shows belonging. It’s always means “it is” or “it has”.
